Manifest I Affirm I Nurture I Grow I Organize
Los Angeles Solidarity Summer Institute (LASSI) is a collective of community organizers, healers, academics, social workers, and creatives. We build space that is gender inclusive, didactic, healing, intergenerational, and non-patriarchal.
Every year, LASSI organizes a retreat for the next generation of organizers, activists, and healers. This retreat is meant to enable dialogue that challenges privilege, capitalism, casteism, anti-blackness, and anti Islamic sentiments to create lasting and meaningful change in our communities and beyond.
Our workshops offer practical skills, discuss current movements, dig into theory, and talk about what meaningful solidarity looks like.
LASSI equips youth with the tools and community to fight injustice.
The Los Angeles Solidarity Summer Institute (LASSI) teaches South Asian American young people about social justice and community organizing throughout the diaspora. The program is open to 16-to-25-year-old South Asian Americans (those with lineage in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, India, and the diaspora – those whose families emigrated from South Asia to other countries – including but not limited to the UK, Australia, Canada, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Fiji, Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados – before settling in the US) LASSI also welcomes adoptees, South Asians of mixed heritage, any immigration status, and all LGBTQIA+ youth.
We mobilize South Asian Americans living in Southern CA (including San Luis Obispo, Kern, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernadino, Orange, San Diego and Imperial counties) and are also open to participants from the Southwest (including but not limited to: Texas, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah).
